The object of study of this research proposal is directly linked to the reading and writing difficulties existing in cycle III of the EJA, which characterizes one of the reasons that causes school dropout, from a perspective of public schools in the municipality of São Mamede- PB Reading provides the individual with knowledge of the world, culture and access to information from different sources. However, it is necessary to develop researches that allow a different look at the relationship between reading, writing and school dropout, with the purpose of inferring in educational practices that corroborate the development of the necessary skills within each cycle in the EJA modality. Thus, it aimed to verify the relationship between reading and writing with school dropout in cycle III of EJA, at Escola Estadual Napoleão Abdon Nóbrega, in São Mamede-PB. The students participated in the research, in which the type of study was descriptive, with a qualitative and quantitative approach, using questionnaires as research instruments, with objective and subjective questions. The main reasons cited by the research participants that would make the students give up on EJA are: employment; not having someone to look after my kids while going to; the husband (or wife) asks to drop out of school; classes are boring and content is complicated. It can be seen that financial stability is the preponderant factor that leads the EJA student, from Escola Napoleão Abdon da Nóbrega, to give up studying.
