This study addresses a proposal to improve the layout of a metallurgical industry of high security products, focusing on the production of steel doors, through its current process in which the positioning of the sectors, the movements and the physical efforts exerted by the operators result in in greater locomotion and risks to those involved. The objectives of this work are to rearrange the layout of the manufacturing sectors to increase productivity and reduce unnecessary displacements, making the process more efficient in addition to reducing the physical efforts of employees and preserving their health. As a method, the systematic layout planning (SLP) and auxiliary tools were chosen, such as the flowchart and diagrams in which the needs of the sectors and activities directly linked to production, high and unnecessary distances between the workstations limiting productivity and sectors with similar characteristics occupying different spaces. The results demonstrated the need to approach activities sequentially at each production stage and the unification of similar sectors, reducing physical movements, limiting the use of freight elevators and consequently the use of equipment that is little used in the final processes. It was concluded that the analysis of the environment of the company under study enabled the development of an improvement proposal that directly influences the results obtained in the production of steel doors and in the practices carried out.
