It is known that the inclusion of the deaf has been a recurring theme in discussions about the communication barriers present in society. This difficulty stems from the lack of knowledge of the listeners in relation to the deaf as a linguistic minority, since the majority language in Brazil is Portuguese. Thus, the present study mainly aims to analyze the difficulties in relation to the communication of deaf subjects with listeners, in contemporary society, and to briefly present aspects about the history of the deaf's trajectory, the educational approaches that were created throughout of time, the Brazilian Sign Language as a language of the subjects, some laws that govern rights for the deaf and also, the main difficulties experienced by the deaf in different social spheres. This research has a qualitative character and in relation to the proposed objective, it is exploratory. The technical procedure adopted in this work was of the bibliographic type, through the use of books, scientific articles and theses related to the area of deafness and about the Brazilian Sign Language. For data collection, a semi-structured interview was carried out in Libras with a deaf subject who used the Brazilian Sign Language, and then it was translated into Portuguese. It is hoped that the information contained here through the research carried out, provide the reader with knowledge about the deaf subject, about deafness and about the Brazilian Sign Language, in a way that helps to increase the inclusion of these subjects in society and also, enable improvements in the problems arising from the linguistic interaction between deaf and hearing subjects.
