THE RELEVANCE OF PHYSICAL EXERCISE IN THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE ELDERLY: IN ASPECTS OF MENTAL HEALTH

Introduction: The practice of physical exercise regularly brings numerous positive results for a healthy life, keeping the body active provides many benefits to the individual's quality of life. For the World Health Organization (WHO) Quality of Life is related to the individual's perception of their position in society, in the context that integrates physical and psychosocial health, culture, values, expectations and concerns in relation to the social. Physical exercise promotes improvements in physical, social and emotional well-being.OBJECTIVE: Analysis of current productions in relation to quality of life, exercise, elderly and mental health studies. METHOD: A search was carried out in the SciELO database, from 2015 to December 2021. Using a manual search of the references, it first used the search with the following combinations: (Physical education) and (mental health), after analyze title and abstract, a new filtering was carried out with the terms (exercise) and (quality of life) found a quantitative of twenty-four articles, using the exclusion criteria, by age group, language and practice of exercise, only four were selected, which fit the proposed objective. Results: Analysis of the articles, after filtering, four articles were found, with a relevant term for physical activity levels and improvement in mental health scores, especially in depressive symptoms. CONCLUSION: The present research concludes that there are still few related studies on the subject, Physical exercise and Quality of life in people with mental disorders. Whether in the national or international context, identifying the need for further discussions on the topic addressed.
