The aim of this study is to review the literature and analyze the etiologies of mandibular trauma and show the importance of oral and maxillofacial surgery for the treatment of these injuries. The search for articles was carried out in the PUBMED, SCIELO, GOOGLE SCHOLAR databases, between the years 2010 to 2021, the study is a literature review. It is concluded that it is of paramount importance that the dentist should carry out an analysis of the conservative and surgical treatment of bilateral mandible fractures, and the decision regarding the type of treatment is related to the aesthetic or functional impairment caused to the patient.
