PERIODONTAL CYST TREATMENT: CASE REPORT

Abstract

The lateral periodontal cyst is a type of odontogenic cyst, whose etiology is still unknown, not being prevalent in the population. Its occurrence usually occurs in the lower premolar regions, presenting in most cases asymptomatically, in some cases presenting an expansion of the cortical bone. A lateral periodontal cyst is a non-inflammatory developmental cyst that is related to or located adjacent or lateral to the root of a vital tooth. Treatment includes complete surgical removal by enucleation without the need for endodontic treatment. The periodontal cyst is detected by going to the dentist and, once diagnosed, whether it is the result of an infectious process or not, the appropriate treatment will be carried out. The correct location of this lesion is very important to be able to plan an adequate dental treatment, as well as to assess whether the cyst has affected neighboring anatomical areas. Based on this importance, the present work aimed to discuss a clinical report, in a 34-year-old female patient, with a cystic lesion in the right maxillary sinus, circumscribed and delimited to the space of the maxillary sinus, histological picture compatible with a periapical cyst. The methodology of the work included a literature review and clinical analysis. With the accomplishment of the same it was possible to conclude that the relevance of the presentation of this clinical case is to give precise emphasis to the early diagnosis and timely treatment of this cystic lesion through the knowledge of the basic concepts and the application of the clinical fundamentals.
