Abstract

Legends and myths are part of the culture of countless peoples. These discourses bring with them a series of characteristics that start from the attempt to explain reality as a response to the creation and origin of things, and are mixed in the popular imagination, gaining traits that are unique to each community in which these narratives are accepted and transmitted, having the orality as a propagating vehicle. These stories of a supernatural character are assumed to belong to a complex cultural reality. In this way, this article brings a discussion that points out the legends and also the myths as active elements in the formation of identities, starting from the ghostly narratives that revolve around the Gruta de Brejinho - Second largest cave in the state of Ceará and located in the city of Araripe .
