KNOWLEDGE OF MEDICINE ACADEMICS FROM A PARAGUAYAN UNIVERSITY ABOUT AUTISM

Introduction: Autism has received particular attention in new research from the scientific community. The number of publications increased by approximately 600% after the year 2000. Research involves several subareas of this pathology, however, old beliefs still remain even among health professionals. The objective of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of fifth-year medical students about autism Methods: A structured interview with 10 questions was used, used in previous publications carried out in other countries, answered by fifth-year medical students at a university private address of Pedro Juan Caballero, Paraguay. Results: 41 academics answered the questionnaire and there was a very low rate of correct answers in the questions, with very low averages, with an average of 5 questions out of a total of 10 questions. Conclusion: The knowledge of medical students in this sample about Autism is very low and shows how worrying the scenario of future doctors who will soon work in the market is.
