THE IMPORTANCE OF THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS FOR THE ADVANCES OF BRAZILIAN LEGISLATION IN FIGHTING RACISM IN SOCIETY AND EDUCATION

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as the Federal Constitution of 1988 and other laws of the Brazilian legal system encourage the fight against racism in social relations and schools, thus seeking a historical portrayal of a culture marked by Eurocentrism. Laws 10.639/2003, 11.645/2008, 12.288/2010 regulate the mandatory teaching of Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous history and culture in national education, in addition to instituting the Racial Equality Statute, aimed at guaranteeing equality to the black population. of opportunities, the defense of individual, collective and diffuse ethnic rights and the fight against discrimination and other forms of ethnic intolerance. Thus, this article aims to report historical elements, as well as describe the real advance in Brazilian legislation on the national scene regarding ethnic-racial issues in the real sense, in everyday social practices, in addition to presenting an alignment with the practices promoted with national and international human rights bodies.
