The present study aimed to make visible the family tree of Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners who are members of the grappling fight team in the city of Igarassu-Pernambuco. Characterized as a complex bibliographic research, where several divergences were found between historians and scholars. The results showed a very high interest in practicing the modality. Students showed an apathy in relation to the dissemination of origins, usually caused by their teachers who prioritize a strong interest in practical classes, however it was noted that there is a real need to know where such knowledge comes from, how and by whom it was disseminated, a true search for the “father of the child”. It is concluded, therefore, that even with many mishaps, the curiosity and growing motivation of the students is very evident in discovering the origins of their gentle art clan.
