As determined by the Federal Constitution of 1988, democratic management must be the principle that guides relations in public education. Subsequently, the current Law of Guidelines and Bases of Education of 1996 states that education must be provided based on the democratic management of public education. For this, it puts the need for the pedagogical proposal to be the result of the involvement of all education professionals, in its elaboration and execution phase. The formation of school councils or equivalent bodies to promote the involvement and participation of the school and local community in school decision-making is also pointed out as a path towards this democracy. Thus, this article sought, through a qualitative study, using the literature review, to describe the importance and how this participation considered democratic takes place.
