Bacterial resistance to antibiotics is considered a natural biological process, originated from the use of these drugs to treat infections and which, due to the indiscriminate and irrational use of antibiotics, has grown considerably around the world, making it if a public health problem. Thus, the objective of this study is to understand the problem of Health Care-Related Infections and the continuous emergence of resistant microorganisms in hospital institutions. The research results allowed us to conclude that HAIs have a great impact on the health system, especially in the context of the increasing incidence of multidrug-resistant bacteria in hospitals. Some measures can help in the fight against HAIs, such as the permanent education of the health team and visitors regarding preventive measures, such as correct hand hygiene, correct use of PPE, contact precautions and rational use of antimicrobials by the clinical staff.
