The article in evidence is a reflection on the teaching of Mathematics, aiming at a comparative study regarding the course of this discipline in schools over the years, in order to know how it was taught and to make a comparison regarding to the way in which the work in this area of knowledge is currently being carried out with students. Through a bibliographic review, we seek to know the trajectory of Mathematics in schools to the present day, and to suggest one of the best proposals to help students build mathematical knowledge, so that they are really assimilated by students in a meaningful and lasting way. At the end, we describe some proposals that can help the teacher to develop their work together with the students, so that Mathematics is perceived by them as a discipline inseparable from their daily activities.
