This paper aims to present some Latin American thinkers who have contributed to the formation of Latin American social thought with their works. American societies have gone through colonial processes and this has accompanied their post-independence development process. Thinkers from this region have developed understandings that refer to the crucial point that as long as colonial logic is not overcome by the new Latin American nations, true emancipation of the continent will not be achieved. Neocolonialism and internal colonization constitute challenges that affect the social processes of creating freer and fairer societies. The work is bibliographical and qualitative in approach. It emphasized colonialism and concluded that the colonized societies were decontextualized and, as a result, lost with the mission that was expected of them in the reconstruction of their independence that would bring greater benefit to the dominated and exploited masses.
