Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by defects in the production or action of insulin in the body. The diagnosis is made with a specific test that detects blood glucose levels. In Brazil, care for people with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the public health level is carried out in primary care settings. Several drugs are used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus, of which blood sugar control is the most important weapon in preventing diseases associated with the disease. Medicines are the main means of treatment to improve the health of the population. Therefore, health education is fundamental for the management of people with diabetes, and as pharmacists are the health professionals most accessible to the population, it is beneficial for the care of people with diabetes, providing education, continuity of care. For people with diabetes, being able to provide pharmaceutical services and being a reference in pharmacological treatment. Considering that the practice of pharmaceutical care can promote the rational use of medicines, increase adherence to treatment, reduce blood glucose levels and the occurrence of complications related to the disease and, thus, improve the quality of life of drug users.
