Abstract

This article makes a brief analysis of Brazilian federal legislation from the perspective of movements around the world for animal rights and the need for changes in the way they are seen in Brazil and in the world. It also highlights the controversy existing in the legislation that is aimed at the protection of animals as a living being, however, with an anthropocentric perspective, focused on the ecological benefits that animals bring to man.It is not the purpose of this article to deal with the legal provisions that protect animals as property, since they also disregard the interests of these beings, thus not meeting the central objectives of the movement for animal rights. It will analyze the countries that already recognize the ability of animals to feel, with an emphasis on Europe that for about 200 years has taken measures in favor of animal welfare. It also shows how these rights are in the United States, where every state has at least one law protecting animals from cruelty and neglect.
