Abstract

The present study was based on the discussing about the concepts of teaching and learning and brought elements of reflection regarding the existing teaching methods, considering these the results of teaching-learning process. It was wanted to demonstrate by means of a bibliographic review based on the pertinent literature, that the diverse teaching methods proposed throughout the history of education have been, as they currently are, teaching attempts to achieve educational success or to promote learning. Last but not least, the idea was to bring together the foundations of various methods, especially those contemporary with the idea of valuing student’s participation in the learning process, and thus, to constitute reference material for teachers who have the desire to innovate in their attempts to cultivate learning.
