The precepts of universal and comprehensive health care, defended by the Sanitary Reform, were widely incorporated into the 1988 Constitution in the creation of the Unified Health System. This health model finds in Primary Health Care the possibility of becoming resolute and adopts Family Health Strategy (ESF) as a proposal for the reorganization of care. In 2000, Dentistry was incorporated into the ESF with the challenge of valuing multidisciplinary work, working with the expansion of the clinic and adopting practices that promote oral health. This narrative literature review is based on articles published in the last three years, justified by the importance of the topic for public health, and aims to contribute to the training of academics in dentistry and the training of dentists who work in the FHS. It is concluded that, although inserted in the team, the dental surgeon still adopts traditional clinical practices with difficulties to act in a multidisciplinary way.
