PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER: ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH YOUR PROFESSION?

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between Physical Education teachers and their daily work at school, addressing the conditions of satisfaction and dissatisfaction with the exercise of their profession. Thirteen Physical Education teachers who work at the Municipal Department and State Education Coordination in the city of Pelotas – Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) participated in the investigation. The methodology used was based on a qualitative approach. The instrument for collecting information was a semi-structured interview and the answers were recorded in audio, with the consent of the interviewees. The interpretation of information followed the methodology of content analysis. The importance of sport as a content of Physical Education and of the teaching work itself was analyzed, along with day-to-day school relationships, such as the teacher-student and teacher-colleagues relationship, recognition of the work carried out, conditions , that is, infrastructure, materials, workload, salaries, forms of student discipline.
