Routine has always been present in the most diverse social organizations, whether at any political or social level there is an organization of time, which also happens at the educational level. To promote much more than an orientation between space-time, the school needs to be related to the environment to which it applies, especially in the pedagogical context. Routine in early childhood education has always had more different meanings and conceptions over time, understood as disciplining children, as well as structuring and significant for educators and students. This trajectory has been understood and developed from several perspectives, and it is possible to perceive, throughout the existence of early childhood education institutions, their organization and function, influences of various orders: religious, philosophical, medical, psychological and biological, allowing to reflect and promote the routine concept in early childhood education. Taking into account this historical trajectory and the different variations of habits in the educational context, in this article we made a historical review related to early childhood education.
