Teaching concepts related to the nature of light is not a simple task. The approach of the books is scarce and provokes little discussion. In this context, the present article aims to present a proposal, based on cognitive conflict, on the nature of light using demonstrative experimentation, the History of Physics and computational simulations of PhET. The UD (Didactic unit) was developed in High School and tested in the 2nd year of Integrated High School at IFRN. The path for planning and execution was divided into two stages to satisfy the specificities of the cognitivist perspective: 1. exploratory phase, 2. elaboration and application of the didactic unit. The testing of the UD was developed in six classroom lessons that followed the proposal of the planned route and was extremely important for the validation of the activity, as it led to the reflection on the importance of factors linked to subjectivity for success in the teaching-learning process of the dual nature of light.
