This qualitative research arose from the perception that several students reveal in their everyday speeches attributions in different ways about mathematics, not only as a curricular subject, but also as something that can be used in everyday life and that arouses emotions that can be good or bad. The present analysis takes into account aspects of math anxiety and matophobia. The study was conducted with fourth-year elementary school students at a municipal school in Olinda, Pernambuco, where the brainstorming technique was applied, which consists of launching as many ideas or reports on a certain topic as in this study. was the math. Data analysis was based on content analysis. The results revealed the following categories: positive attributions, negative attributions, concept, methodological, applicability in mathematics and others. It was found that most students did not show signs that they suffer from matophobia and/or anxiety in relation to the mathematical discipline.
