Juvenile obesity is a significant public health issue, while the pursuit of aesthetic standards and rapid weight-loss methods can foster the inappropriate use of medications, including sibutramine. This study aimed to analyze the indiscriminate use of sibutramine by young people for obesity treatment and aesthetic weight loss, considering factors associated with self-medication, adverse effects, and awareness-raising strategies. An integrative literature review was conducted, covering Brazilian publications available between 2021 and 2026—selected based on their relevance to the topic—and drawing on scientific and institutional databases and sources. The results showed that sibutramine can contribute to body weight reduction when used in specific clinical situations and under professional supervision. However, limited scientific literature was found regarding its use by obese young people, particularly concerning self-medication and aesthetic weight loss. Key factors associated with inappropriate use included pressure to meet aesthetic standards, body dissatisfaction, social media influence, and the desire for quick results. Risks related to cardiovascular effects and other adverse events were also identified, reinforcing the need for professional monitoring. The study concludes that the indiscriminate use of sibutramine among young people is a concerning practice, highlighting the need for expanded health education initiatives, guidance on the rational use of medicines, and multidisciplinary care, as well as further research specifically targeting this population.
