Abstract

This article presents a reflection on the concepts and understandings of alfabetização (basic literacy/learning to read and write) and letramento (literacy practices/social use of literacy). It also offers a more investigative look at the teacher training process, aiming to foster greater consistency regarding these concepts. Teacher training in this area seeks to equip educators to teach reading and writing by moving beyond mere code decoding toward the actual social use of reading and writing, while also monitoring each student's individual development.
