EATING DISORDERS IN CATTLE: UNDERSTANDING DEPRAVED APPETITE

Abstract

 Objective: to analyze the causes, manifestations, and impacts of feeding disorders in cattle, focusing on depraved appetite, in order to understand its triggering factors and contribute to prevention strategies and proper herd management. Methodology: a bibliographic search was conducted using the Google Scholar, SciELO, and Science Direct databases, applying the keywords: depraved appetite, mineral deficiency, and feeding behavior. The search was limited to articles published between 2010 and 2026. Conclusion: early diagnosis and the adoption of appropriate corrective measures are fundamental to reducing the occurrence of feeding disorders in cattle. Investing in nutritional planning, bromatological analyses, correction of mineral deficiencies, and continuous veterinary monitoring contributes to improving animal welfare, increasing productivity, and consolidating more efficient, sustainable, and economically viable production systems.
