The Detached Police Post (PPD) symbolizes the presence of the Military Police in the most remote areas of the State of Pará. In the Curuai District and the Vila Socorro community, both bordered on one side by the Tapajós River and on the other by the Translagos Highway (PA-257), the police force based in these locations guards numerous communities encompassing three distinct riverside/rural regions: Lago Grande, Arapixuna, and Arapiuns. From this perspective, police service is remarkably unique compared to urban policing, especially regarding the difficulties and challenges encountered in this region, ranging from adverse weather conditions to unfeasible response times to incidents due to difficulties accessing certain communities. This article, entitled “Military Police Detachment in the Lago Grande Region of Santarém: Challenges and Perspectives,” aims to understand the characteristics of detached policing that differentiate it from urban policing. The methodology used in this research consisted of collecting theoretical and documentary data, followed by semi-structured interviews with military police officers who experienced this type of service characteristic of rural areas. We also used photographic records to verify the legitimacy of the information collected. Finally, we conclude that despite the difficulties of military police service in riverside and rural communities with difficult access, the detached police force adapts to the challenges encountered, whether they stem from nature or result from logistical problems.
