Abstract

This scientific research examines the role of the radiology professional in the use of X-ray imaging during urgent and emergency situations, focusing on their performance in the care of polytrauma patients. The research is significant for seeking to understand the difficulties faced by radiology professionals—a crucial factor in ensuring safety, diagnostic quality, and speed of care. The guiding question is: what are the main difficulties faced by radiology professionals when performing X-rays on polytrauma patients in urgency and emergency units? Thus, the general objective is to analyze the difficulties encountered by radiology professionals in urgency and emergency contexts. The specific objectives are: (1) to contextualize the role of the radiology professional in urgency and emergency care; (2) to understand the strategic importance of X-ray use in the care of polytrauma patients; and (3) to present safer and more effective alternatives for conducting these procedures, aiming to reduce risks, improve diagnostic quality, and optimize care time. The methodology employed is a literature review, analyzing books, scientific articles, and academic publications addressing the role of radiology professionals, the use of X-rays in urgency and emergency situations, and the care of polytrauma patients. This theoretical survey will allow for the identification and understanding of the main challenges faced by these professionals, as well as the strategies recommended in the literature for safer and more efficient practice. The expected outcome is to highlight the importance of continuous training for radiology professionals, the adoption of standardized and updated emergency care protocols, the recognition of the value of these professionals' work, and the presentation of safer and more effective procedural alternatives, thereby promoting greater efficiency and safety in the care of polytrauma patients.
