Abstract

This article analyzes the gym as an institutional health promotion facility in the Military Police of the State of Pará (PMPA), investigating its use, adherence, and results among the corporation's personnel. Starting from the recognition that regular physical activity is a determining variable for the physical, mental, and operational health of military police officers, the study examines recent initiatives to establish gyms in PMPA barracks — with emphasis on the Tenente PM RR Abelardo Neves Gym, inaugurated at the General Command Barracks in August 2024 —, the documented benefits of resistance training for public safety professionals, and the challenges of adherence and continuity of practice in a context of long shifts and high operational demand. Based on a bibliographic review and documentary analysis of institutional and scientific sources, the article concludes that providing gyms in barracks represents a significant institutional advance, with the potential to reduce medical leave, improve operational performance, and strengthen the quality of life of police officers, provided it is accompanied by structured incentive programs, professional supervision, and an organizational culture favorable to health.
