ASSOCIATION OF L-PRF AND RHBMP-2 FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF LARGE BONE DEFECTS AFTER MAXILLARY CYST ENUCLEATION

The reconstruction of large bone defects resulting from the enucleation of maxillary cysts remains a frequent challenge in oral and maxillofacial surgery, particularly in cases where spontaneous healing is insufficient to restore bone volume and architecture adequately. In this context, the use of leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) and recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) has emerged as a promising alternative for enhancing tissue repair. This study aimed to analyze the scientific evidence regarding the association between L-PRF and rhBMP-2 in the reconstruction of large bone defects following maxillary cyst enucleation. An integrative literature review was conducted using national and international databases. The analyzed studies demonstrated that the combination of these therapies promotes angiogenesis, osteoinduction, and new bone formation, contributing to improved clinical and radiographic outcomes. It can be concluded that the association of L-PRF and rhBMP-2 presents significant potential for maxillofacial bone regeneration, although further clinical studies are needed to establish standardized therapeutic protocols.
