Abstract

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is characterized by intense emotional instability, impulsivity, altered self-image, and difficulties in interpersonal relationships, significantly compromising the quality of life of affected individuals. In this context, nursing plays a fundamental role in the care of patients with BPD, acting through welcoming, qualified listening, management of emotional crises, and promotion of the therapeutic bond. However, insufficient professional training, difficulties in clinical management, and stigmas related to mental disorders still represent challenges to humanized care. The problem addressed in this study is to understand how nursing acts in the care of patients with Borderline Personality Disorder, considering its importance in mental health care. The general objective is to analyze, through scientific literature, the role of nursing in the care of patients with BPD. This is an integrative literature review, conducted in the BVS, LILACS, and MEDLINE databases, using descriptors related to nursing, mental health, and borderline personality disorder. The results showed that nursing makes an important contribution to welcoming, humanized care, and continuity of treatment, although weaknesses related to professional qualification still exist. It is concluded that training and humanization of care are fundamental for promoting comprehensive and effective care for patients with bipolar disorder.
