Antimicrobial agents are of paramount importance in the treatment of various infections. However, over the past few decades, the indiscriminate and abusive use of antibiotics has resulted in a new concern for resistance of bacteria that no longer respond to antimicrobial therapy. Bacteria are present in all environments, some are harmful and some essential in our daily lives. Thus, addressing the issue of antibiotic resistance is one of the most urgent public health priorities today, mobilizing public agencies, governments, pharmaceutical industries, health institutions to control its evolution.
