Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reflect on the challenges of the pedagogical training of physical education teachers in higher education, considering the relationships between technical training and university teaching practice. To this end, a literature review was conducted on teaching in higher education, teacher training, and the specific characteristics of physical education as a field of study and professional practice. The study sought to discuss aspects related to teaching knowledge, the pedagogical demands of university practice, and the difficulties faced by teachers in light of contemporary demands in higher education. It was also noted that many Physical Education professionals possess solid technical training but exhibit weaknesses in the pedagogical field, especially regarding teaching and learning processes. In this context, the importance of a critical-reflective training program capable of integrating scientific knowledge, pedagogical practice, and social commitment was highlighted. Thus, it is clear that teaching in higher education demands much more than technical mastery of the subject area; it requires teachers to possess the ability to reflect, to mediate knowledge, and to be sensitive to students’ educational needs.
