This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Law No. 14.181/2021 as an instrument for consumer protection and preservation of the minimum subsistence level in the face of credit granting practices by financial institutions in Brazil. Over-indebtedness in Brazil affects millions of people, generating profound impacts that go beyond the financial sphere, affecting human dignity. Through qualitative and bibliographic research, the study investigates the concept of over-indebtedness, the duties of conduct imposed on suppliers, and debt renegotiation procedures, concluding that an effective application of the law is necessary for the social reintegration of the debtor.
