USE OF POLICE SNIPER (PS) IN PUBLIC SECURITY

Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the conceptualization and performance of the police sniper in special operations actions to understand their contribution to the effectiveness of these actions. The methodology was based on bibliographic research in the development of an exploratory, deductive, and qualitative literature review. The results showed that the growth, organization, and technological development of criminal groups give rise to the use of more advanced combat strategies, including, in this context, the use of police snipers in police operations. It can be concluded that the use of police snipers by the Paraná Military Police brings numerous strategic benefits involving precision shooting, preservation of life, tactical support for field teams, assistance in real-time observation and intelligence, protection for the team and security for police officers, surgical precision in cases of compromising shots, and a deterrent and psychological effect that are also very important for crime prevention.
