The Unified Health System - SUS, regulated the production of herbal medicines and inputs from plants, the commercialization generated by the sector and the Brazilian biodiversity are in partnership. In addition, the program helped to strengthen family farming, contributing to the industrial and technological development of the health sectors. The aim of this study was to identify in the literature how the pharmaceutical professional can act in the context of the SUS network in raising awareness about the correct and rational use of herbal medicines. The databases consulted were: Lilacs and Scielo. The literature review addressed the SUS program, which aims to provide safe and rational access to the population and the availability of medicinal plants through phytotherapy. The program also aims to carry out research, development and innovation. In this context, pharmaceutical care is essential in this program, to educate, raise awareness and effectively participate in the implementation of this practice by users. The pharmacist close to the SUS patient will be able to collaborate in guiding and dispensing herbal medicine prescriptions for the best quality of life for the population. It is considered that the presence of the pharmacist in the herbal medicine program adds quality to the SUS user service, stimulating the use of quality herbal medicine and using them in a rational and safe way.
