Introduction: The role of nursing in the implementation and strengthening of the National Policy for Comprehensive Men’s Health Care (PNAISH) is extremely important, since nursing practice is directly linked to comprehensive care, health promotion, and the strengthening of community bonds. Objective: To analyze the historical development of the National Policy for Comprehensive Men’s Health Care (PNAISH) and the relevance of nursing practice in the promotion, prevention, and healthcare assistance for the male population within the context of Primary Health Care. Methodology: With a time frame starting from the creation of the men’s health policy. Inclusion criteria: Data were analyzed using the following databases: SCIELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature), VHL (Virtual Health Library), and PUBMED. The following keywords were used: Historical development, Men’s Health, Nursing. Exclusion criteria: Theses, paid articles, reviews that did not address the creation of the men’s health policy, and studies unrelated to the proposed themes were excluded. Conclusion: This study made it possible to conclude that although the creation of PNAISH represented an important milestone, there are still significant gaps in its implementation. Low male adherence is strongly associated with sociocultural patterns, in addition to structural limitations within the healthcare system. On the other hand, strengthening Primary Health Care, combined with the strategic role of nursing and the humanization of care, shows great potential to transform this scenario and improve the health indicators of the male population.
