Abstract

This study analyzes the application of reverse osmosis in the production of purified water for the pharmaceutical industry, focusing on the essential quality control parameters and the operational challenges associated with the system. The research was developed through an integrative literature review, with a descriptive and qualitative approach, covering scientific articles published between 2019 and 2025 in the Google Scholar, SciELO, PubMed, and ScienceDirect databases. The data demonstrate that reverse osmosis offers high efficiency in the removal of dissolved salts, organic matter, and microorganisms, making it indispensable for obtaining high-purity water. However, it was observed that the success of the operation depends on rigorous monitoring of indicators such as conductivity and Total Organic Carbon (TOC), in addition to the effective control of phenomena such as fouling and biofilm formation, which may compromise the process. It is concluded that this technology plays a central role in ensuring water quality, acting as a fundamental pillar for the safety of industrial processes and the excellence of manufactured medicines, meeting the regulatory standards required by the sector.
