Abstract

This article analyzes the importance of martial arts in the initial training and continuous improvement of military police officers of the Military Police of the State of Pará (PMPA), highlighting its role in improving hand-to-hand combat, the proportional use of force, and the quality of police action. Based on qualitative bibliographic research, studies on martial arts and self-defense in the military police are reviewed, focusing on experiences of other Brazilian military police forces and the reality of the PMPA. The results indicate that the systematic integration of martial arts into training contributes to greater agent safety, reduced police lethality, strengthened professional ethics, and closer community engagement. It is concluded that the PMPA has a favorable field to consolidate and expand these practices in its training curriculum, reinforcing the image of a technical, humane, and socially legitimate police force in the Brazilian Amazon.
