This article aimed to analyze the effectiveness of GLP-1 receptor agonists in the treatment of obesity associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus, highlighting their benefits in glycemic control, body weight reduction, and prevention of cardiovascular complications. This is an integrative literature review with a qualitative approach, conducted through a search in the VHL database, including articles published between 2020 and 2025. The process of selection and distribution of studies was structured based on an adaptation of the Prisma Figure. The results showed that GLP-1 receptor agonists promote significant improvement in metabolic control, weight reduction, and relevant cardiovascular benefits, in addition to contributing to the reduction of mortality and cardiovascular events. Positive hemodynamic effects and improvement in patients’ quality of life were also observed. However, factors such as high cost, limited access, and the need for continuous clinical follow-up still hinder their widespread use. It is concluded that GLP-1 receptor agonists represent a promising therapeutic strategy in the management of obesity associated with T2DM, although further studies are needed regarding their long-term effectiveness and cost-effectiveness.
