PERCEPTIONS AND EXPECTATIONS OF GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS REGARDING UNIPAMPA — A REGIONAL CASE STUDY IN CAMPANHAS

Abstract

This article investigates the perceptions, expectations, and level of knowledge of high school students regarding the Federal University of Pampa in the Southwest region of Rio Grande do Sul. As a central focus, the work highlights the analysis of potential demand for evening course offerings at the Bagé campus, more specifically, Energy Engineering. Methodologically, quantitative-descriptive field research was conducted with 473 samples from seven municipalities: Bagé, Santana do Livramento, Candiota, Aceguá, Hulha Negra, Pedras Altas, and Pinheiro Machado. The data were analyzed through the lens of critical theories of higher education interiorization, evidencing a significant disconnect between the university and local basic education. The results reveal a scenario of limited knowledge regarding the institution's tuition-free status, course offerings, and admission processes, in addition to pointing out the preference for the evening shift as a determinant factor for the continuation of studies. It is concluded that, despite the physical expansion of the federal network, informational and logistical barriers persist that hinder the effective democratization of access, suggesting the need for more assertive communication strategies and the readjustment of shifts to local realities.
