Abstract

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) stands out as one of the leading causes of infant death within the first year of life. Despite its multifactorial etiology, it is strongly associated with modifiable risk factors, especially those related to the infant's sleep environment. This study aimed to analyze the scientific production on the role of nurses in the prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). This is an integrative literature review conducted in the LILACS, SciELO, and PubMed databases, using the descriptors SIDS, prevention, nursing, and health education. Studies published between 2015 and 2025, in Portuguese and English, were included. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, four articles were selected. The results were organized into four categories: conceptualization of SIDS, risk factors, preventive measures, and the role of nurses. It was evidenced that SIDS has a multifactorial etiology, with emphasis on modifiable environmental factors, especially those related to infant sleep. The role of nurses proved to be fundamental in health education and in the promotion of safe practices, although challenges remain regarding family adherence and gaps in professional practice. It is concluded that strengthening educational actions and qualifying nursing care are essential for reducing infant mortality associated with SIDS.
