Femicide constitutes the most extreme form of gender-based violence and represents a serious violation of human rights in contemporary society. Despite legislative advances achieved in Brazil, such as the enactment of the Maria da Penha Law (Law No. 11.340/2006), the classification of femicide in the Penal Code by Law No. 13.104/2015, and the advancement of femicide to be considered an autonomous crime, increasing the minimum sentence, according to Law No. 14.994/2024, rates of lethal violence against women remain high, especially in the Northern Region of the country. In this context, this article aims to analyze the impacts of femicide on current society, focusing on cases that occurred in the municipality of Porto Velho, capital of the state of Rondônia. The research adopts a qualitative approach, based on bibliographic and documentary research, using data from official bodies, legislation, and academic productions on gender-based violence. This study seeks to understand not only the structural causes of femicide, but also its social, familial, and institutional consequences, as well as to evaluate the State's actions and the effectiveness of public policies to combat it. It concludes that femicide in Porto Velho reflects deeply rooted gender inequalities, weaknesses in protection networks, and the need for integrated and preventative public policies capable of guaranteeing the dignity and right to life of women.
