Introduction: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a chronic functional gastrointestinal disorder characterized by abdominal pain and changes in bowel habits, significantly impacting quality of life. Objective: To analyze diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for IBS, highlighting positive diagnosis and the role of nursing in comprehensive care. Method: An integrative, qualitative, and descriptive review was conducted using databases such as Google Scholar, SciELO, and PubMed, including studies published between 2020 and 2025. Six main studies and relevant secondary references were selected. Results: IBS has a multifactorial etiology involving the gut-brain axis, microbiota, and psychosocial factors. Interventions such as the low-FODMAP diet, probiotics, and pharmacological therapies showed effectiveness, especially when combined. Discussion: Diagnosis based on Rome IV criteria improves accuracy and reduces unnecessary tests. Nursing plays a key role in early identification, health education, emotional support, and treatment adherence. The biopsychosocial approach highlights the influence of emotional factors on symptoms. Conclusion: IBS requires individualized and multidisciplinary management. Evidence-based strategies improve symptoms and quality of life. Nurses play a central role in continuous care, contributing to more humanized, effective, and safe assistance.
