Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the epidemiological profile of patients undergoing post-bariatric plastic surgery and to discuss the impact of these procedures on quality of life within the context of comprehensive obesity treatment. The study addresses the functional, aesthetic, and psychosocial repercussions resulting from massive weight loss after bariatric surgery, with emphasis on changes related to excess skin and body flaccidity. The role of plastic surgery as a complementary reconstructive stage is discussed, contributing to functional restoration, improved mobility, facilitation of personal hygiene, and enhancement of body image perception. Emotional and social aspects involved in the rehabilitation process are also considered, highlighting the influence of these interventions on self-esteem and social reintegration of patients. The study further reflects on the importance of integrating plastic surgery into the multidisciplinary approach to obesity, emphasizing the need to recognize these procedures as part of continuous care for post-bariatric patients. It is concluded that post-bariatric plastic surgery represents a relevant step in consolidating the benefits achieved through bariatric surgery and in promoting long-term quality of life.
