This study aimed to report the use of viscosupplementation as a minimally invasive therapeutic approach in the treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) osteoarthritis. The case involves a 38-year-old female patient who sought care at the Grupo de Dor Orofacial (DOFAM) at the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM), presenting with a chief complaint of joint noise in the left TMJ associated with chronic functional pain persisting for approximately seven years. After detailed anamnesis, extra- and intraoral clinical examination, palpation, imaging analysis, and diagnostic questionnaires, a diagnosis of degenerative joint disease associated with disc displacement without reduction was established. A therapeutic protocol was implemented consisting of two intra-articular injections of medium molecular weight hyaluronic acid into the superior compartment of the left TMJ, with a 14-day interval, aiming to improve joint lubrication, relieve pain, and reduce joint noise. The treatment was complemented by the use of an interocclusal device and guidance on parafunctional habits. The results showed significant clinical improvement, with resolution of pain and reduction of joint noise. Viscosupplementation proved to be an effective and minimally invasive approach, relieving symptoms and restoring function.
