Abstract

The important topic of public safety in our country today can be understood by considering the extent of the role that the police play in any society. Police action can even define the character of the government; therefore, if the police act primarily in a repressive manner, that government becomes recognized as arbitrary. However, if the government manages to guide police action while respecting the rights of the population and legal limits, community policing represents a policing practice close to society and, due to the problems experienced by society, conflict mediation is pointed out as an instrument of public safety as a responsibility of all. The integration between the community and the police ultimately provides a closer relationship with citizen security, allowing the police to adapt to conflicts.
