This article aimed to evaluate the epidemiological profile of hospitalizations for schizophrenia in Brazil between 2015 and 2024. This is an ecological epidemiological study, based on secondary data obtained from the Hospital Morbidity Information System. Data regarding hospitalizations of individuals registered under the ICD-10 morbidity list "schizophrenia, schizotypal and delusional disorders" were used for the variables: region of Brazil, age group, sex, race/color, average length of stay, total cost, and type of care. The most prevalent epidemiological profile of hospitalizations includes men, of mixed race and white, of working age (between 20 and 49 years), and in emergency situations. From a geographical point of view, higher rates related to deaths were observed in the Southeast region, and lower rates in the North and Central-West regions. Additionally, although the amount of spending was also higher in the Southeast region, the longest average length of hospital stay occurred in the Northeast region. The results of this study reinforce the need to strengthen public mental health policies, with strategies focused on early detection, adherence to treatment, and continuous monitoring of patients, which are fundamental to reducing the occurrence of acute crises and, consequently, the need for hospitalizations.
