Abstract

Congenital toxoplasmosis is an infectious disease caused by the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii, whose transmission occurs mainly through the transplacental route when the pregnant woman acquires the infection during pregnancy. It is a relevant public health condition, especially in regions with environmental conditions favorable to parasite maintenance and a high presence of definitive hosts. The present study aims to analyze the epidemiological profile of congenital toxoplasmosis in the state of Tocantins, from 2019 to 2025, based on secondary data obtained from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN). The results indicate the occurrence of 1,027 notifications during the analyzed period, of which more than half were confirmed for T. gondii infection. Temporal variation in records was observed, with the highest incidence in 2023, as well as a homogeneous distribution between sexes. The analyses suggest that environmental, climatic, and social factors may influence the dynamics of the disease in the state. It is concluded that continuous epidemiological monitoring and the strengthening of prevention actions and early diagnosis are essential to reduce congenital toxoplasmosis in Tocantins.
