Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the use of dapagliflozin in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, which is characterized as a chronic disease with high prevalence associated with significant metabolic and cardiovascular complications. This is a literature review based on 17 recent scientific studies published within the last five years. The results demonstrated that dapagliflozin promotes significant improvement in glycemic control, especially in combination therapies, showing a beneficial effect in medication synergism, in addition to potential for disease remission. A reduction in visceral and hepatic fat was also observed, along with improvements in inflammatory markers and renal, neurological, and cardiovascular benefits in patients. However, variability in therapeutic response among patients and the need for monitoring possible adverse events were noted. Therefore, it is concluded that dapagliflozin represents an important therapeutic option, being effective and comprehensive in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus, contributing to the reduction of complications and improvement of clinical outcomes.
