This article analyzes the crucial and heroic role of the Amazonas Police Force, precursor to the current Military Police of Amazonas (PMAM), during the tragic Bombardment of Manaus on October 8, 1910. The event, set within the turbulent context of the First Brazilian Republic, marked one of the most dramatic episodes in Amazonian political history, when federal forces, supporting a coup attempt, attacked the state capital. The research explores the political antecedents, the dynamics of the bombardment, and, primarily, the selfless resistance of the Police Force in defending the constitutionally elected governor, Antônio Clemente Ribeiro Bittencourt, and legality. Using a historical and documentary research methodology, based on contemporary newspapers and governmental messages, the study seeks to extol the honor and glory of the Amazonian military who fell in defense of order, while criticizing the disproportionate and damaging action of federal forces against the civilian population and the city's historical heritage. The final considerations reinforce the legacy of bravery and institutional commitment of the PMAM, connecting past values with the corporation's present identity.
